Even though it is named for the famous 1930s actor, Humphrey Bogart, I can't help but think it was a combination of being the name of the next town over back home and the familiarity of the Confederate flag waving above it (...yeah, I don't get it either) that drew me to this particular spot. During this first visit, we noticed a sign advertising a Wednesday night special of a pizza and a beer for 6€. Since we all love pizza, and we all love beer, and we all needed a regular social engagement, we decided this would be a worthwhile investment for our Wednesday nights. And thus was born the Franken ETA Pizza Wednesday.
Unfortunately, tragedy struck for our Pizza Wednesday only a few short weeks after its inception - I joined the Musikverein, which also meets on Wednesday evenings. Since one commitment involved rehearsing with a group to prepare for a concert, while the other was dedicated to over-eating and alcohol consumption the choice was pretty clear. And that's how Pizza Wednesdays became a very irregular occurrence. But they did not end forever. Every now and then, on the rare occasions that there is no band on Wednesday nights or for special circumstances (e.g. friends visiting, farewell dinners for members of our group heading back stateside), we all gather for a pizza and a beer (or two... or three).
Oh and btw, my pizza of choice is the "Pizza Hollywood" - ham, pineapple, corn (yeah, apparently it's normal to put corn on pizza in Germany, it's on pretty much all of them!), and artichoke hearts. Deeeeeeelish.
