what I'm currently playing on repeat
Anyone who knows me, knows that I can listen to the same song[s] on repeat for about 5 months without getting tired of them. My current obsession (between this song, and most definitely this song), is from the Voice of Germany (or, as the commercials like to say, "the Woice of Germany"). Yes, I'm kind of in love with this show and I'm not ashamed (ok maybe a little ashamed) to admit it!
Anyway, last week was the semi finals and my favorite singer (it's a redhead thing, guys) sang this song and I can't stop listening to it.
also, while searching for that link, I came across this cover by my redhead and got all weak in the knees

it's good to have goals...
and my goal for next year is to collect all 6 seasons of LOST.
Dream big, I know!
It all started when I lived in Switzerland and realized how much easier it was to travel with digital information (i.e. movies saved to my external hard drive as opposed to carrying the actual DVDs). Since then I have collected over 130 movies, 2 complete TV series and some random other episodes of various shows. All obtained by completely legal methods... of course.
As far as LOST is concerned, I caught on to the craze pretty late in the game (in the middle of the 5th season, I believe), but I've been really wanting to go through the series again. So my new goal for the coming year is to collect all 6 seasons.
And with each season being $35 on iTunes, if someone could deposit $210 into my account, you would really help me reach my goals more quickly.

Things I Forgot I Missed, part 2
I've never been much of a TV watcher (well, except for the few shows that I watch religiously online, but then again, if I'm watching on my laptop, that's not technically TV, is it?). However, I did have a select few favorite stations when the opportunity presented itself - the top three being History Channel, Bravo, and Discovery Channel. In that order.
All in all, being home made me realize how much better TV is in the US than in Germany (sorry Germany, but you had to see that one coming by the fact that all your TV shows are American sitcoms dubbed in German, anyway. Oh and your very concerning taste in sitcoms). I mean really - inaccurate and over-dramatized documentaries followed by plotless reality TV that makes you question the very necessity of the human race on Earth - does it get any better than that?
When I returned home it happened to be 4th of July weekend, which meant we had some company in town. And when we have company in town, we always seem to roughly follow the same daily schedule: Wake up, eat breakfast, watch some TV while we digest, swim, eat lunch, swim, play cards, eat dinner, play cards, watch TV. So I did my fair share of TV-watching already within the first few days of my arrival, and it didn't take long for me to suddenly realize just how much I missed the History Channel.
Sure, the constant documentaries on the end of times and apparent affinity for weaponry in WWII can be a bit much. And maybe the no-name "professionals" lacking a legitimate background in their supposed field offer, at best, questionable commentary. But it's still very informative (mostly). What can I say, I'm a sucker for a good documentary (as in, if anyone needs to get me a "happy August" present, I would gladly accept "How the States Got Their Shapes" on dvd).
Of course, by the end of the visit, I had added a whole lot of trashy reality (Real Housewives of New York and Big Rich Texas, to name a couple), but we won't go into that.

Maybe one day (probably tomorrow) I'll forget just how awesome TV back home is, but I'll never stop missing the way it just sucked hours out of my life.

German MTV - the newest hits from 2001
Remember that TV our landlords bought us? Well, ever since our TV watching experience was enhanced tenfold, Gemma and I try to remember to turn it on more often (tv watching has become educational for us language-wise, even when we watch Daniela Katzenberger*). One of our favorite channels, of course, is German MTV.
Well today when we turned it on, we were greeted by the "music video" of "You're the one I want" from Grease.
Right, by music video I mean the clip of the song from the movie... from 1978. And, if that wasn't a sign enough that we should probably just change the channel, it was followed immediately by Nelly and Kelly Rowland's "Dilemma" (Hello 2002, how's it
been?). And to round it all out, "Bonnie & Clyde" by another child of Destiny's, Beyonce, and [former?] husband Jay-Z (ok, 2003, we're getting closer...). Finally, after a few more questionable videos, we finally made back to this decade with Rihanna and Eminem.
Listening to the radio is a similar experience of today's greatest hits, where "today" is more likely to mean yesterday or 30 years ago. It's worse than Atlanta's unrelenting love of Usher (where, I'm pretty sure "Yeah" has been played at least once a day on the radio since it's release in 2004). Kind of.

*she is THE German reality TV star. She has a reality show just for being famous and she's famous for having a reality show.
